Carrollton, OH

Carrollton is Carroll County's seat at the junction of State Routes 39 and 43, with Routes 9 and 332 feeding the village from other directions. The 2020 census counted 3,087 residents. It was established as Centreville in 1815 at a crossroads linking Canton, Steubenville, New Lisbon, and New Philadelphia. Once the new Carroll County needed a county seat, the village name changed to Carrollton in 1834, and county government gave the crossroads a more permanent center. The county courthouse still gives the center a clear civic focus.

Carrollton Exempted Village School District, the Carroll County District Library branch, the courthouse, local shops, and village services fill in the daily map around that highway junction. The Canton-Massillon metropolitan connection runs north, while county roads carry farm and small-town traffic into the center from every direction. Carrollton still does the work its founders built into the place: it gathers county business, schools, and local errands at a crossroads that began as Centreville and became the seat of Carroll County.
