About Carter Springs
Carter Springs is a small Douglas County CDP on the north side of US 395, about nine miles southeast of Minden. It sits in the same corridor where early Douglas County communities grew from trading posts, ranching, and farming along the Sierra foothills. Minden, named for a German town, became the county seat after Genoa's courthouse burned and Minden's growth shifted county government there in the early twentieth century. Carter Springs does not have a separate municipal center; its identity comes from the highway, the surrounding valley, and its relationship to Minden and the rest of Douglas County. It is a named community on the map without separating from the roads, services, and history of the valley around it.
