Carver, MN

Carver sits along the Minnesota River southwest of the Twin Cities, split naturally between a preserved 19th-century valley town and modern subdivisions up on the bluffs. Before European settlers established a river port here in the 1850s, the area around Carver Creek was home to a Wahpeton Dakota village. Steamboats and later railroads made the settlement an active trade hub, leaving behind one of the state's best-preserved historic districts filled with late-1800s brick architecture.
