Casa Colorada, NM

Casa Colorada is a Valencia County census-designated place in the Rio Grande valley south of the Albuquerque region. The county's online map lists Casa Colorada as a community separate from incorporated places and shows the roads, waterways, and rail lines around it. Its setting is shaped by the irrigated valley floor, bosque vegetation, and open desert uplands. The name refers to a red-house landmark remembered in early accounts of travel through the valley, giving the place a historical clue as well as a geographic one.

Valencia County planning documents place the community southwest of the Jarales and Bosque area. The larger Rio Grande setting continues south toward Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge, where the river crosses a landscape of bosque, grassland, desert, and mountain edges.
