Sitting about twenty miles south of Albuquerque in the Rio Grande valley, Los Lunas blends deep New Mexico roots with steady modern growth. Long before it became a popular choice for commuters, this area served as a crossroads along El Camino Real and later the original alignment of Route 66 along Main Street. Today, the town is anchored between the green, historic river valley on the east side of Interstate 25 and the open mesa stretching west toward El Cerro de Los Lunas. The New Mexico Rail Runner Express stops right by the village transportation center, giving commuters a direct train ride into downtown Albuquerque and Santa Fe without dealing with freeway traffic. Closer to home, community life gravitates toward spots like Daniel Fernandez Memorial Park, which features sports fields, recreation facilities, and a popular summer splash pad. When you want to get outside, River Park provides peaceful walking trails and fishing along the Rio Grande, while the trail network around El Cerro offers panoramic views across the whole valley.
