Castile, NY

Castile is a quiet western New York village in Wyoming County where life moves at an easy, unhurried pace. With fewer than a thousand residents, it has the classic feel of a small rural community surrounded by rolling hills and open farmland. The village got its name in the early 1800s when an early settler's wife, Sally Hurd, suggested naming the township after the historic region in Spain. One of the biggest perks of living in Castile is having Letchworth State Park right in your backyard. The village entrance takes you straight into the park, giving you year-round access to the Humphrey Nature Center, shaded hiking trails along the Genesee gorge, and views of the Lower Falls. The area also holds a unique piece of history as the longtime home of Castile's Water Cure, a famous wellness sanatorium operated for decades by Dr. Cordelia Greene, one of America's pioneering female physicians.
