Catlett, VA

Catlett is a Fauquier County census-designated place about nine miles southeast of Warrenton, with Virginia State Route 28 running through the community. The 2020 census counted 331 residents. Catlett grew around the Orange and Alexandria Railroad, which reached the area in 1852 and turned the settlement into a telegraph, mail, and supply stop. The village’s roads still follow that older relationship between farms, rail, and county travel. Its center remains legible on the highway.

The Civil War left Catlett in the path of repeated raids on the railroad, and the Catlett Historic District preserves buildings from the village’s later agricultural life, including a 1920 creamery. Auburn Battlefield lies nearby, adding another layer to the local map. Pearson Elementary School serves children in the community, while Route 28 carries traffic toward Calverton, Bealeton, Nokesville, and Manassas. Catlett is a small Fauquier place whose story is written in railroad grades, dairy buildings, battlefield ground, and the roads that now carry the region’s daily movement.
