Catlin, IL

Catlin is a Vermilion County village about ten minutes southwest of Danville, with a history that begins under the name Butler’s Point in 1820. Amos Woodin, a cooper, built the house that now holds the Catlin Heritage Museum in 1827, giving the village a tangible link to its early tradespeople. The Potawatomi Trail of Death also passed through Catlin in 1838; markers near the museum and on North Paris Street keep that history visible. Today Catlin is part of Salt Fork Community Unit School District 512, and its village map still turns on the museum, the school district, and the prairie roads leading back to Danville. Catlin is an old crossroads with its history kept in a house.
