Cayucos is a census-designated place in San Luis Obispo County, California, situated on the central coast between Morro Bay and Cambria. The community of approximately 2,400 developed along a sandy shoreline historically inhabited by the Chumash people, who settled the central coast thousands of years ago. Cayucos State Beach, established in 1940, draws visitors for swimming and surfing, and public education is provided by the Coast Unified School District.
