Cedar Hill, TN

Cedar Hill is a Robertson County city of 301 people at the 2020 census, set along U.S. 41 in northwest Tennessee. Springfield is southeast and Adams northwest, so the highway ties the town to both nearby communities. Its older footprint was larger: census-era accounts put Cedar Hill at about 700 people in 1940 and 1950, with roughly 10 stores serving surrounding tobacco farmers.

Cedar Hill's civic name also carries a local political history. Jo Byrns was born here on July 28, 1869, and went on to become Speaker of the U.S. House; the town's elementary and high schools now bear his name. On the natural side, the 200-acre Cedar Hill Swamp WMA holds hardwood forest dominated by pin oak and sweetgum, with overgrown fields near the entrance. Between the Jo Byrns schools, the old tobacco-service economy, and the swamp preserve, Cedar Hill's story is legible in a few very specific local details. The city dates its establishment to 1870, adding another fixed point to that older civic story.
