Celoron, NY

Celoron sits on the south shore of Chautauqua Lake at the western edge of Jamestown, where a village street grid meets a long waterfront history. The Broadhead family opened Celoron Park in 1894, building an amusement destination with rides, concerts, sports, and railroad access from Jamestown. The park closed in 1962, but its name still carries through the village, and the former resort era remains part of Chautauqua County memory. Celoron was incorporated in 1896 and later became known as the hometown of Lucille Ball.

Today Lucille Ball Memorial Park gives the village a lakefront gathering place with boat launches, docks, a boardwalk, ball field, bandshell, playground, and two statues of Ball. Waterfront improvements have added amenities for residents, boaters, anglers, and visitors, while Jamestown supplies nearby jobs, shopping, and cultural institutions. Homes, lake weather, summer events, and the park shape the local calendar. Celoron is small enough to retain a village feel, yet its shoreline connects it to the wider Chautauqua Lake recreation economy and to one of the region’s most recognizable entertainment histories.
