About Cementon

Cementon is a Whitehall Township census-designated place on the Lehigh River, seven miles north of Allentown, with 1,657 residents in the 2020 census. Northampton sits across the river, and Cementon's older names - Siegfried's Ferry and Siegfried's Bridge - follow the crossings that connected the two banks. The place grew inside the Lehigh Valley's cement belt, where the Lehigh Canal and railroads moved raw materials and Jacksonburg limestone supplied the rock for Portland cement. The first Portland cement plant stood between Cementon and Coplay. Cementon Park gives the community a large field complex with baseball, basketball, tennis, volleyball, and youth programs. The park and Laurel Fire Company host the annual Cement Belt Fair in the last week of June, keeping the industrial name in the summer calendar. Whitehall-Coplay schools serve local students. Cementon is a river community where an old crossing, a nationally important cement district, and a park full of ballfields still line up on the same map.
