Centereach, NY

Centereach was first called West Middle Island and then became known chiefly as New Village. Discovery of another place with the latter name prompted a 1916 change to Centereach, a name meaning “center reached” and referring to the hamlet’s central Long Island location. The 2020 census recorded 30,980 residents. Middle Country Road runs east–west through the community, while New York State Route 25 is its primary commercial thoroughfare.
