About Centerville
Centerville is Leon County’s seat, named for its position near the geographic center of the county. It became the county seat in 1850, and the city has kept that courthouse-town role alongside a much less formal annual tradition: the Black-Eyed Pea Festival, established in 1937. Centerville Independent School District serves the city, while the festival keeps the town’s name on the calendar for more than county business. Centerville is Texas county-seat country with a very literal name, a long civic role, and black-eyed peas doing their annual bit of local work.
