Central, TN

Between Elizabethton and Johnson City, Central occupies a Carter County census-designated place inside the Johnson City metropolitan area and broader Tri-Cities region. It is an unincorporated community, and the local map is carried by county roads, homes, and Central Elementary School. The school began as a community effort to secure a local building, and its present campus on Taylor Road remains the clearest named institution in the area. Johnson City and Elizabethton supply the larger regional reference points, while Carter County provides the school and county-government structure. The clearest way to place Central is by its school, its county, and the two cities at either end of the road.
