About Chamblee

Chamblee began as a railroad junction, and transportation still organizes its most recognizable districts. Two rail lines crossed here in the late nineteenth century; Camp Gordon housed roughly 40,000 servicemen during World War I, and postwar factories and warehouses later lined what became Peachtree Boulevard. The industrial base contracted by the 1980s, while annexation and redevelopment expanded the city's map. Chamblee had 30,164 residents in 2020, compared with 9,892 in 2010, though that decade also brought major boundary changes. Downtown now spans the historic storefronts and Antique Row area near Peachtree Road and the newer development around Chamblee MARTA station. The station serves Gold Line trains, local MARTA buses, and regional bus connections and includes large surface parking areas.

Buford Highway gives Chamblee a different commercial geography. Parks and paths provide smaller-scale connections across this busy road-and-rail landscape. The Chamblee Rail Trail passes through Keswick Park toward downtown, while the city's trail plan is intended to link neighborhoods, schools, parks, restaurants, and the MARTA station across barriers such as Peachtree Boulevard, Buford Highway, and the airport. Keswick, the city's largest park, combines playing fields, courts, a community center, playgrounds, and nature trails through a wooded section. Ten-acre Arrow Creek Park adds dog parks, sports courts, outdoor fitness equipment, a walking path, and public art along Buford Highway. The Chamblee Library supplies study rooms, public computers, wireless hotspots, adult-learning materials, and meeting space nearby.
