Charlos Heights, MT

Charlos Heights is a Ravalli County census-designated place of 135 people at the 2020 census, a small settlement along U.S. 93 in the Bitterroot River valley. It sits nine miles south of Hamilton and eight miles north of Darby, so the highway is the practical spine and those two towns are the nearby service points. The name also appears as Charlo's Heights, and the place sits inside a valley with deep Salish and orchard histories.

A 1909 Montana brochure promoted Charlos Heights orchards and the Bitterroot Valley's McIntosh Red apples, a reminder that fruit-growing once helped sell this stretch of western Montana. Today the local frame is rural homes, irrigated fields, cottonwoods, the Bitterroot River, Charlos Heights Community Church, and the Darby K-12 district. There is no downtown in the big-city sense; Charlos Heights is a named pocket along the valley road, close to campgrounds, fishing access, and the fields that make the Bitterroot landscape feel continuous. The valley's scale is the point.
