Chattaroy, WV

Chattaroy is a quiet mountain community nestled along Buffalo Creek in Mingo County, just a few minutes north of Williamson. Life here has long been shaped by southern West Virginia's coal mining heritage, famously captured in the songs of traditional folk singer Nimrod Workman, who spent decades living and working in the hollow. Today, Chattaroy is home to around 600 residents who enjoy a relaxed pace and a close-knit neighborhood feel. The local volunteer fire department stands as a central pillar of the community, while day-to-day shopping, dining, healthcare, and Mingo County public schools are easily reached in neighboring towns throughout the Tug Valley.
