About Chauvin

Chauvin is a Terrebonne Parish community along Bayou Petit Caillou, south of Houma, where the road and the water seem to share the address. The place is part of coastal Terrebonne’s fishing and bayou landscape, with shrimp boats and canals shaping the local picture. Its best-known landmark is the Chauvin Sculpture Garden, a bayou-side folk-art environment built by bricklayer Kenny Hill beginning in 1988 and later preserved by Nicholls State University. The garden’s tower and concrete figures are unusual, but they grow out of the place: Chauvin is a community where water, weather, work, and handmade art meet along one long south-parish road.
