Cherokee Ridge, AL

Cherokee Ridge is a young Marshall County town off U.S. 231, roughly midway between Huntsville and Arab. The community began in 1992 under Sid McDonald and incorporated on May 26, 2021, after residents voted to form a town. Its map is a recent residential community rather than an old crossroads: homes, the country club, lakes, and internal roads sit on the foothills west of the highway.

Most of the local amenities are concentrated around Cherokee Ridge Country Club: an 18-hole golf course, pool, playground, tennis and pickleball courts, and a multi-purpose court. Marshall County Schools serve the town, while Huntsville’s employment geography reaches into the community through NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, Redstone Arsenal, contractors, and other industries. That mix gives the town a newer rhythm than the older farming communities around it. The town’s civic life is still new—council meetings, planning and zoning, and basic municipal services—but the physical pattern is already clear: a residential cluster tied to Huntsville’s workday orbit and Marshall County’s hills and lakes.
