Childress is a city and the county seat of Childress County, Texas, situated in the southeastern Texas Panhandle near the Oklahoma border. Named for George Campbell Childress, principal author of the Texas Declaration of Independence, and hosting a campus of Clarendon College, the regional hub of approximately 5,834 is served by Childress ISD locally.
