About Churchtown

Churchtown is a Lancaster County CDP in Caernarvon Township, a small place with a surprisingly deep church-and-settlement history. The Lancaster Amish settlement—the oldest Amish settlement still in existence—began near Churchtown, and the community's name is backed by several old congregations. Bangor Episcopal Church, Caernarvon Presbyterian Church, and the Edward Davies House are all on the National Register. PA 23 runs through as Main Street, with the Conestoga River watershed draining the ridge south of town. Churchtown is eastern Lancaster County in a readable old-road pattern: churches, farms, and a rural map whose layers are still easy to see.
