Cibolo, TX

Cibolo's official history begins with the Southern Pacific Railroad's arrival in 1876. The settlement took its name from Cibolo Creek; the name is commonly translated as "buffalo." Cotton became the principal cash crop, with corn, wheat, oats, and milo also grown in the surrounding valley. Residents voted to form an independent township in 1965. Cibolo now extends along FM 78 and FM 1103 between the Interstate 10 and Interstate 35 corridors, about 13 miles east of San Antonio and near Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph. Recreation is distributed through newer and older facilities. Niemietz Park, the city's oldest park, has athletic areas, walking paths, and an accessible playground; Schlather Park combines a walking trail, disc golf, play space, and picnic tables.

The current city directory also lists Veterans Memorial Park, Al Rich Park, a fishing pond, community garden, sports complex, YMCA, and Miracle League Field. Main Street remains a recurring address for citywide activity. The Multi Event Center sits beside municipal offices on South Main, where the city's 2026 Summer Nights series scheduled one Friday program each month from May through August, including Touch-A-Truck, a YMCA sports night, and a splash event. Cibolofest, the city's largest annual celebration, brings live music, food, vendors, and a carnival each October.
