About Citrus Park
Citrus Park is a northwest Hillsborough County suburb organized around county roads and services rather than a municipal center. The community is unincorporated. On Gunn Highway, Citrus Park Town Center is the current name of the complex once called Westfield Citrus Park; its directory now mixes department stores and smaller shops with NCG Cinema, Elev8 Fun, and children's entertainment. The reported population rose from 24,252 residents in 2010 to 28,178 in 2020, while land area was 10.16 square miles in both censuses. County recreation provides alternatives to the shopping and road network. Citrus Park Sports Complex on Gunn Highway is a 16.33-acre site with baseball fields, a basketball court, picnic shelters, and a county-partner youth baseball program.
The Upper Tampa Bay Trail reaches Ehrlich Road just east of Gunn Highway and continues north to Peterson Park, giving the surrounding residential area a paved route for bicycling and walking as well as access points for fishing and birdwatching farther south. The trail is not yet continuous: its separate northern segment connects with the Suncoast Trail at the Veterans Expressway, while a gap remains between Peterson Park and Van Dyke Road. As of July 2026, Hillsborough County was designing that final connection, with design completion projected for mid-2028 and no construction date listed. Until that connection is built, trail users must treat the southern and northern sections as separate trips.
