Clarence is a census-designated place in Erie County, New York, within the larger town of the same name. The 2020 census counted 2,733 residents and 1,228 housing units in the CDP, which covers about 2.91 square miles. The surrounding town has no incorporated villages; its official history identifies the Hollow, first settled in 1799, as one of five named hamlets. The town was formally established in 1808.
