Clark, PA

Clark is a Mercer County borough on the southern shore of the Shenango River Reservoir, part of the Hermitage micropolitan area. Originally called Clarksville, it was laid out in 1829 by Samuel Clark, who owned the land where the borough began. The reservoir changed the landscape dramatically: the old Shenango River channel and portions of the Erie Canal extension now lie beneath the lake, and houses tied to the former valley were moved or disappeared as water filled it.

That history is still visible in the way Clark meets the shoreline. The borough's homes and roads face the reservoir, while the surrounding Mercer County countryside carries the old river routes into a new lake setting. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers water-management and recreation facilities shape the wider reservoir, and nearby towns supply shopping, schools, and work connections.
