About Clermont
Clermont is an included town of Indianapolis in Pike and Wayne townships, with its own town government under Unigov. The place was first laid out as Mechanicsburg in 1849, then took the Clermont name to avoid confusion with another Mechanicsburg. Crawfordsville Road remains the main local line, carrying the town past its post office, old commercial blocks, and the road toward Brownsburg. Nearby Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park adds a very different landmark, from short-track racing to the NHRA U.S. Nationals. Clermont is a town inside a city, with a nineteenth-century crossroads and a modern motorsports map.
