Clifton, ID

Clifton is a Franklin County city at the northern end of Cache Valley, set against the Bannock Mountain Range and part of the Logan, Utah–Idaho metropolitan area. Thomas Charles Davis Howell and his sons settled here in spring 1869, and a Latter-day Saint branch organized later that year under William Jared Pratt. The city’s early map still reads like a settlement story: a family arriving at the valley’s edge, followed by a church branch and a town taking shape beneath Bannock Mountain. Clifton is a small Idaho place whose first chapter is unusually easy to locate—one family, one branch, and the north end of the valley.
