Clyde, CA

Clyde is a Contra Costa County census-designated place six miles east of Martinez, with 729 residents in the 2020 census. It began as a planned company town: in 1917 the United States Shipping Board loaned money to the Pacific Coast Shipbuilding Company, and architect Bernard Maybeck supervised the layout. That origin gives Clyde a more deliberate physical story than its small population suggests. Today it sits near the Martinez refinery corridor, with the Mount Diablo Unified School District serving local students and Martinez providing the nearest larger city center.
