Coal Fork, WV

Coal Fork is an unincorporated census-designated place in Kanawha County, part of the larger Campbells Creek community about ten minutes east of Charleston. Its setting is all Appalachian valley: Coal Fork and Campbells Creek drain toward the Kanawha, with roads, homes, and wooded hollows gathering around the creek bottoms. The capital is close enough for hospital, work, shopping, and county errands, while the community itself remains spread along the hills and side roads.

There is no separate downtown to organize Coal Fork's week. Daily life runs through the Campbells Creek corridor, county services, nearby churches and schools, volunteer organizations, and the roads that carry residents toward Charleston. West Virginia's watershed maps place Coal Fork within the Campbells Creek–Kanawha River drainage, a useful reminder that the creek is part of the local infrastructure as much as the scenery. Coal Fork feels like a small valley community folded into a larger one: a name on the map, a set of hollows, and a short drive from the city.
