Cole, OK

Cole is a McClain County town on State Highway 74B, six miles southeast of Blanchard. The town grew out of the early Oklahoma Central Railway line: the region's tracks arrived in 1906, H. Macklin and associates platted Cole in 1912, and the town took its name from Judge Preslie B. Cole, who held agricultural interests nearby. A post office and cotton gin followed, along with general stores that gave the new town its first commercial shape. Cole lies north of Purcell and south of Oklahoma City, but its own story is still about the railroad, the farm country, and a town site assembled around a judge's name.
