Colesville, MD

Colesville is a 5.12-square-mile census-designated community in Montgomery County whose public geography is organized around neighborhood facilities, stream valleys, and the US 29 corridor rather than an incorporated downtown. Its population was 15,421 in 2020. Census estimates for 2020-2024 counted 4,748 households and put owner occupancy at 83.0 percent. The median owner-occupied home value was $616,800, monthly costs for owners with a mortgage were $2,891, and median gross rent was $1,893. Nearly 46 percent of residents age five and older spoke a language other than English at home during 2020-2024, a concrete measure of the community's multilingual population. Two nearby county parks support different kinds of daily recreation. Six-acre Colesville Park, acquired in 1946, has a playground, baseball and multiuse fields, two lighted tennis courts, a tennis wall, and a picnic area. Maydale Conservation Park protects woodlands, two ponds, and a high-quality stream while providing a trail network, an accessible natural play area, picnic space, and a campfire ring.

Its Maydale Nature Classroom adds year-round programs, summer camps, school activities, seasonal native-plant sales, and volunteer opportunities. Public transportation follows Colesville Road and Columbia Pike: Montgomery County's Flash service runs on US 29 between the Silver Spring Transit Center and Briggs Chaney, with an express weekday branch to Burtonsville. The Orange route operates every 15 minutes daily, and overlapping service brings seven- to eight-minute weekday rush-hour intervals at many stops. Flash vehicles use near-level boarding or ramps and can carry bicycles on interior racks. Since June 29, 2025, Flash and the county's other Ride On services have charged zero fares. Together, these facilities supply field recreation, environmental programs, and frequent corridor bus service.
