About Colfax
Colfax is a Dunn County village on the Red Cedar River, founded in 1864 near 18 Mile Creek and shaped by timber, sandstone, and agriculture. The Wisconsin Central Railroad arrived in 1884, turning the settlement into a rail stop; the village incorporated in 1904, and by 1925 it was Dunn County’s largest community. The old Soo Line Depot now houses the Colfax Railroad Museum, whose collection includes locomotives, cars, signals, and railroad china. Colfax is a western Wisconsin village with the river at its edge and a railroad museum in the old depot.
