Collbran, CO

Collbran is a statutory town in Mesa County at the eastern end of the Plateau Valley, along Plateau Creek and about 45 minutes east of Grand Junction. The 2020 census counted 369 people. Its post office opened in 1892, and the town incorporated in 1908. Ranching remains the valley's working landscape, with Collbran serving as the area's civic center for farms and ranches spread along the creek and the lower slopes of Grand Mesa.

Education and seasonal activity add other layers. The Collbran Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center, a U.S. Forest Service campus, trains students in conservation skills, wildland fire management, carpentry, welding, and related trades. The center opened in 1965 and can bring a sizable student population to a town of this scale. Vega Reservoir lies east of town, Powderhorn Mountain Resort is nearby, and the Grand Mesa Scenic and Historic Byway leads into the high country. Collbran's daily map runs from ranch roads and a small main street to a federal training campus and mountain recreation routes.
