Colleyville has worked hard to keep its quiet, spacious feel. Most of the everyday shopping, local dining, and services line Colleyville Boulevard, which is the local name for State Highway 26 running through the center of town. Tucked away on either side of the highway, you will find peaceful neighborhoods filled with large lots, winding roads, and mature trees, with Big Bear and Little Bear creeks weaving through the landscape. The layout gives the town a relaxed, semi-rural character without sacrificing convenience, keeping errands close by and residential streets peaceful.

That open atmosphere comes straight from the community's rural roots. Long before suburban homes arrived, the area was a patchwork of small farming hamlets, dairy pastures, and rail stops along the Cotton Belt Route. The city takes its name from Dr. Lilburn Howard Colley, a physician who settled along Glade Road in the 1880s. When neighboring cities in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex began expanding in the 1950s, local residents officially incorporated in 1956 to protect their independent, small-town identity and green open spaces.

You can still catch glimpses of that farming heritage in the city's green spaces. McPherson Park, once one of the area's prominent dairy farms, now features a renovated dairy barn, historic structures, open lawns, and a popular splash pad for kids on warm afternoons. Over at Bransford Park, families gather for sports and playground time around the historic 1914 Webb House. These neighborhood parks make it easy to enjoy the outdoors while keeping the community connected to its past.

Community events bring neighbors together throughout the year, especially around the municipal complex near City Hall and the Colleyville Public Library. The surrounding grounds host lively outdoor concerts, holiday festivals, and seasonal family activities. When you want a quiet escape, the 46-acre Colleyville Nature Center offers wooded walking trails, peaceful ponds, a fishing pier, and scenic spots along Little Bear Creek. It is the kind of town where you can enjoy festive community gatherings on Friday night and relaxing morning trail walks right down the road on Saturday.
