About Columbus Grove

Columbus Grove is a Putnam County village laid out by Captain Frederick Fruchey in 1842, in the southeast corner of Pleasant Township. The name came from early settlers who had roots in Columbus, Ohio. State Routes 12 and 65 pass through town, giving the village a clear road-map presence on the southern edge of the county. Town hall and the police station share one corner, another small detail that helps fix the center of town. Columbus Grove is an Ohio village with a borrowed city name, a pair of state routes, and a layout that still points back to its first survey.
