About Cooleemee

Cooleemee is a Davie County mill town on the South Yadkin River, built around the Cooleemee Cotton Mill beginning in 1898. The mill made homes for workers, churches, schools, a company farm, and the streets of a self-contained textile community. Production ended in 1967, but many residents stayed, leaving a town whose housing and landmarks still show how the mill organized daily life. The Cooleemee Mill Town Historic District includes hundreds of contributing buildings, and the Foard-Tatum House adds another listed piece of local history.

The Textile Heritage Museum in the Zachary House and the Mill House Museum keep the story close to town, while RiverPark at Cooleemee Falls brings the South Yadkin into the present with trails, picnic spots, and the old stone dam. U.S. 801 leads toward Mocksville and the wider Davie County road network. Cooleemee feels like a place that has changed industries without losing its outline: mill houses, churches, the river, and a museum district still make the old company town legible.
