Coolidge, GA

Coolidge is a small Thomas County city that began when the Tifton, Thomasville and Gulf Railway reached the area in 1900. It was chartered in 1901 and named for a railroad official. The 2020 census counted 528 residents, and the city sits between Thomasville and Moultrie in south Georgia’s farm country. Its streets still carry the compact shape of a place built around a rail stop, with larger roads leading toward Thomasville, Moultrie, Valdosta, and Tallahassee.

The present-day civic list is unusually complete for a city of this size: Coolidge has its own police department, public library, park, baseball field, churches, and local industries. City offices handle weekday business, while residents organize festivities through the year. The surrounding countryside keeps agriculture in the picture, but the library, ball field, and town events give the city its own weekly rhythm. Coolidge is a place where the railroad origin is easy to spot in the map, while the local calendar is carried by city services and neighbors who keep putting events on it.
