Copiague is laid out along Great Neck Road, which runs from the Long Island Rail Road station straight down to the canals and residential streets near the Great South Bay. Everyday shopping, diners, and services are clustered along Montauk Highway and near the train tracks. Because Copiague is an unincorporated hamlet in the Town of Babylon, town services handle everything from road maintenance to commuter parking permits at the station. Recent downtown revitalization has added new apartments and refreshed storefronts near the train, making the area around the station much more walkable. In the mid-twentieth century, the community was also home to the Copiague All-Weather Drive-In, one of the largest outdoor movie theaters in the country. The 93-acre town park includes a bay beach, fishing piers, boat ramps, athletic fields, a splash park, and a bandshell that hosts popular summer evening concerts. Many waterfront amenities, such as boat launch access and beach parking, require Town of Babylon resident permits, so getting those decals is an easy early step after moving in. Between a direct rail commute on the north side and boating on the bay to the south, Copiague offers a convenient, down-to-earth South Shore setting.
