Corriganville, MD

Corriganville is a census-designated place in Allegany County, north of Cumberland at the confluence of Wills Creek and Jennings Run. The 2010 census counted 455 residents. Maryland Route 36 runs through the community, and Route 35 heads north toward Ellerslie. The streams narrow the valley and give Corriganville the shape of a foothill settlement in western Maryland, with homes, roads, rail corridors, and industrial ground gathered along the water.

Stone has long been part of the local working landscape. Cumberland Cement and Supply has operated a quarry in the area, extracting limestone and shale from the Helderberg Group and Keyser Limestone. Corriganville's boundaries also follow old transportation lines: CSX crosses Jennings Run, and the former Allegany Central Railroad route cuts through the ridge at Brush Tunnel. The place sits within the Cumberland metropolitan area, but its daily map is more specific - two waterways, two state roads, a quarry, and the rail grades that tie the valley to western Maryland.
