About Cortez

Cortez is a home-rule city and the county seat of Montezuma County, Colorado, situated in the Four Corners region of the American Southwest. Built in 1886 to house workers constructing irrigation infrastructure diverting water from the Dolores River, the community of approximately 9,000 serves as the primary gateway to Mesa Verde National Park and is also home to the headquarters of outdoor gear maker Osprey Packs. Public education is administered by the Montezuma-Cortez School District.
