Creola, AL

Creola is a city in northern Mobile County, a North Mobile community shaped by the Mobile River Delta. The place takes its name from an early settler who was Creole. Maps from the late nineteenth century show the settlement near rail lines, and a post office opened here in 1885. Creola incorporated in 1978. Interstate 65 and U.S. Highway 43 now carry traffic through the city, while the Mobile River forms its eastern edge and the county line.

Creola's local map has a practical center around Old Highway 43, where City Hall, a municipal park, a senior center, and fire and police services sit close together. Mobile County Public Schools oversee the local schools, and the River Delta Marina and Campground lies just outside town with access to the Mobile-Tensaw Delta. North Mobile Airport adds another local landmark. Creola is a newer city with an older landscape, sitting between interstate traffic, rail history, river wetlands, and the larger Mobile area.
