About Crescent City
Crescent City is a Putnam County city set between Crescent Lake and Lake Stella, with downtown on the narrow strip between the water. The 2020 census counted 1,654 residents. The city was laid out in 1876 and incorporated in 1885; its name came from the crescent shape of the larger lake. Citrus made the late-19th-century town money, then freezes pushed growers toward fern and cut-foliage production, giving Crescent City a more complicated agricultural past than the postcard version suggests. Today the two lakes still set the pace.

Crescent Lake handles fishing and boating, Lake Stella frames the other side of town, and nearby Dunn's Creek State Forest extends the outdoor map. The Crescent City Historic District holds nearly 200 older buildings and sites, while Hubbard House gives the city a preserved home with a story of its own. Crescent City's local scoop is “life between the lakes”: old citrus-country streets, water on both sides, and a downtown that is still trying to make those pieces work together.
