Croghan, NY

Croghan is a Lewis County village in the foothills of the Adirondacks, set along the Beaver River where New York Routes 126 and 812 meet. The village sits mostly in the Town of Croghan with a small piece in New Bremen. Both village and town honor George Croghan, a War of 1812 soldier, and the river runs west toward Beaver Falls. The setting is a mix of northern hardwoods, farm roads, and old industrial waterpower through the seasons.

Croghan grew during the lumber era, when the Beaver River moved logs and mills shaped local fortunes. Theodore B. Basselin, a lumber baron and millionaire, left a mark on Main and Bank Streets, while the wider town now includes Beaver Falls, Belfort, Indian River, and Naumburg. The International Maple Museum and Hall of Fame, Oswegatchie Educational Center, and Railway Historical Society connect the area to newer chapters of regional life.
