Crowley got its start as a 19th-century railroad stop, and you can still feel that heritage today as freight trains pass through the center of town. Pioneer farming families first settled along Deer Creek before the community shifted toward the tracks in the 1880s, taking its name from a railroad official. Trains still roll through the downtown street grid, but recent road improvements and updated crossings have made daily driving much easier.
