Cuba, MO

Cuba is a relaxed Ozark town of about 3,200 people, sitting right along Interstate 44 about eighty miles southwest of St. Louis. It is best known as the Route 66 Mural City, thanks to more than a dozen large outdoor paintings scattered across downtown brick walls. These murals showcase local stories, including everything from Civil War history to Amelia Earhart making an unplanned landing in a nearby pasture. Along the old highway corridor, you will also pass classic landmarks like the Wagon Wheel Motel, where original 1930s Ozark stone cottages and a restored neon sign still greet travelers.

Living in Cuba means having everyday conveniences close by alongside a quiet small-town pace. Hood Park serves as a central community hub with baseball fields, playgrounds, walking paths, and the municipal swimming pool. Downtown features local cafes, antique shops, and the Crawford County Historical Museum, while the surrounding hills offer easy access to outdoor recreation. Floating, canoeing, and fishing along the Meramec River and nearby spring-fed creeks are popular weekend pastimes just minutes outside city limits.
