About Cusseta

Cusseta is a town in Chambers County, Alabama, situated between Opelika and Lanett in east-central Alabama. Named for an ancient Creek Indian town, Cusseta had a population of 152 at the 2020 census. The community holds a notable historical distinction as the birthplace of Pat Garrett, the lawman famed for killing Billy the Kid, who was born near Cusseta in 1850. Historical records also reveal that Cusseta was actually incorporated as a city as far back as 1853.
