About Cut and Shoot

Cut and Shoot's name comes from a real 1912 church-and-school dispute, though the story is more local argument than outlaw legend. Several Baptist and Methodist congregations had built a combination meetinghouse, then split over how it should be used. A threatened fight, a sermon held under a brush arbor, and a court case gave the unnamed community its lasting label: the place of the cutting-and-shooting scrape. The city incorporated in 1969, and Texas 105 runs through the community east of Conroe. Stephen F. Austin Elementary is also part of the local map. Cut and Shoot is a Montgomery County place whose name preserves the moment a neighborhood argument became town history.
