Daleville, IN

Daleville is a Delaware County town in Salem Township, part of the Muncie metropolitan area but still shaped by a small downtown and the farmland around it. The Dale family settled here in the 1820s, and Alexander “Campbell” Dale laid out the original town in 1838. Daleville did not incorporate until 1982, when town status helped it avoid annexation by neighboring Chesterfield.

The railroad changed the pace of the place. Rail service arrived in 1858, and the Central Indiana Interurban followed in 1901 with an electrical substation for streetcars. During the Indiana Gas Boom, glass, brick, and tile manufacturing mattered locally, adding an industrial layer to the older farm community. Today the town hall, parks, downtown streets, and Daleville Community Schools are the fixed points on the map for daily life. Think of Daleville as a compact Indiana town where a Dale family settlement, two generations of rail, and a deliberate 1982 incorporation still show up in the street plan.
