Dansville, MI

Dansville is an Ingham County village centered on M-36 within Ingham Township, about twenty-two miles southeast of Lansing. Samuel Crossman settled in the area in 1844, opened an early store, and helped establish the crossroads that his son Daniel later platted in 1857. The village was incorporated in 1867. Its location keeps it close to the state capital and Michigan State University while leaving the surrounding roads, farms, and township landscape distinctly rural.

Dansville's local institutions carry much of the town's rhythm. Dansville Schools serve children from the village and surrounding countryside, and the district's Aggie identity reaches through classrooms, athletics, and school events. The fire department serves both the village and nearby communities, while the Michigan Historical Society preserves photographs, business records, school history, and stories from the people who lived here. M-36 brings traffic through the center, but the village is best understood through its school, fire station, historic buildings, and nearby farm roads. Dansville has the feel of an old Ingham County settlement that stayed small without losing its working institutions.
